The Delorean tail lights have a tiny tiny little lens to complete the outside cu rve but they would NEVER do this on a modern car. I mean, it’s a total waste of money/time, right?

Completely breaks the line. It’s important.
Now, let’s talk about all those EXPOSED FASTENERS!

From the back, i t’s all one piece of plastic from one mold , so it’s not really much extra money/work to stamp them out with that extra detail.

That is the difference between what was intended as a supercar and the appliances they’re pumping out now. It’s all in the details.

Ask Takuro.

Thank you. I figured it was just one piece, but couldn’t find a good pic.

SO YES THEN!
![]() 06/27/2019 at 17:01 |

Yeah, the appliances now days actually run and have a higher attention to the details.

I’m talking design, not execution. They’d never design a taillight like that because as you mentioned it would be too expensive.

If you read “On a Clear Day You can See General Motors” you will learn that John Delorean hated it when some MBA removed a piece of trim or a style point to save $
0.0
1 per car. So when it was his company he did it his way, that and cocaine

Dude, you’re a rockstar. That pic is awesome.

Paging Takuro Spirit to this post

I am too. There’s way more thought and complexity in a modern KIA *taillight than the Deloreans

Looks wrong without it. And doesn’t really cost more to make anyway. But really, you can’t take that out, if the cost is really an issue, you need to design it so you have a bigger piece or the line cuts across the corner. If you think having a random missing chunk to save a few cents is worthwhile... I don’t know, maybe work for GM or something.

I don’t see any exposed fasteners.
But I do see a lot of exposed screw heads!!!
:-p

Counterpoint: More cars need exposed fasteners these days, you should be able to quickly and easily figure out how things come apart for simple repairs.

That car wasnt exactly a "budget minded" vehicle

Or at least in a Hyundai

I’d say that’s an outlier on the high end of complexity. My point is more that the Deloreans taillight is dead simple compared to most modern designs.
4 nearly flat parts that could be vacuum moulded in the back room of a pub in Ireland
